All About Handcrafted Hardwood Designs LLC

I’m James, the owner and craftsman behind Handcrafted Hardwood Designs LLC, a veteran-owned small business dedicated to creating custom hardwood furniture, floater and picture frames, serving boards, and home décor. I also offer framing services and personalized laser engraving to bring your vision to life.
My Process and Philosophy
Every piece I make starts with an idea—an inspiration that takes shape into a design. From there, I carefully select quality, kiln-dried hardwood sourced from local, family-owned lumber suppliers who practice sustainable and responsible harvesting.
When I first get my hands on the rough-sawn boards, they might look unassuming, but as I plane away the rugged exterior, the wood’s true beauty—the grain, figure, and character—begins to reveal itself. Wood tells a story through its growth rings, imperfections, and even the marks left by insects during its life. My job is to embrace that story and craft it into something extraordinary—something that’s more than just functional but also a timeless work of art.
I’m committed to using solid hardwoods, time-honored joinery techniques, and durable, safe finishes that not only enhance the wood’s natural beauty but ensure longevity.
My designs highlight both the wood and the craftsmanship that goes into each piece, creating heirloom-quality furniture and home décor that’s built to last. It’s not just meant to serve a purpose but to become a cherished part of your home, passed down from generation to generation.
I never compromise on the integrity of my craft. Every piece I make is unique, handcrafted with attention to every detail. Whether I’m working with walnut, white oak, mahogany, maple, cherry, or any other hardwood, I treat each project with the respect it deserves. Sometimes, I’ll incorporate other natural materials like leather or slate, adding interest and uniqueness to the design. No two pieces are ever the same because the wood itself is a one-of-a-kind product of nature.
Yes, quality materials and craftsmanship do come with a higher upfront cost compared to mass-produced items from big-box stores. But when you invest in one of my handcrafted products, it’s something you only need to buy once—because it’s built to last a lifetime.
